Crisis Stabilization
Program Overview

At ACS, we specialize in crisis stabilization and supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. Our goal is to help them live their best lives by partnering with and training caregivers. Our services cater to individuals aged 5-59 who are eligible for Regional Center services and exhibit challenging behavior. We address a range of behavioral needs in different living environments, such as family homes, residential facilities and hospital settings.

Our collaborative approach involves creating customized care plans, promoting community integration, and improving quality of life. Our successful track record providing behavioral services in Shasta, Tehama, Humboldt and Butte Counties demonstrates our ability to achieve positive outcomes.

Crisis Stabilization

This program prevents acute crises from escalating, offering support for long-term success. Services include crisis stabilization plans, behavioral assessments, skill acquisition, training, and access to community resources. Intended to be a temporary service program that spans 3-6 months.

Behavior Services

Our Behavioral Support Services are designed to assist families and caregivers facing ongoing behavioral challenges. This in-home program focuses on skill-building for the individual and hands-on coaching for parents and caregivers. These services can also be an extension of our Crisis Stabilization Program.

Program Goals

Least Restrictive

Maintain the least restrictive living environment, enhancing comfort and autonomy for individuals.

Educate Caregivers

Educate and empower primary caregivers with effective behavioral management strategies.

Rest for Caregivers

Offer primary caregivers essential breaks and opportunities for self-care to maintain their well-being.

Behavior Improvement

Focus on reducing crisis behaviors in clients while encouraging positive replacement behaviors.

Expand Resources

Identify and integrate community resources and services to enhance the client’s support network.

Promote Safety

Prioritize and ensure the safety of all individuals, creating a secure and supportive environment.

When to Refer

A referral to ACS may be appropriate when:

  • An individual displays challenging behavior such as self-injury, aggression, or property damage

  • Behavioral concerns pose safety risks to the individual or others

  • Community access or placement stability is at risk

  • A residential provider has issued or may issue a 30-day notice due to behavioral concerns

  • Families report difficulty maintaining adequate supports

  • Previous services have been insufficient to stabilize behavior

  • Alternative or intensified behavioral approaches are being considered

Referrals may originate from Regional Centers, physicians, care coordinators, or authorized payers, depending on service type.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Individual is between age 5 and 59

  • Eligible for Regional Center services and/or covered by a participating insurance plan

  • Displays clinically significant challenging behavior

  • Resides in a family home, licensed care facility, supportive/independent living environment, or hospital/STAR placement

  • Ambulatory and in generally stable health

Final eligibility is determined based on clinical assessment, authorization, and payer requirements.
